About me

What can be said about Mobeen? For one, he's not a fan of writing about himself in the third person, nor can he understand why it is common to do so on About pages. Uh, let's try that again.

I think I am best described as a short, talkative and surprisingly loud person. Also, rather obsessed with videogames.

I'm currently studying at the University of Waterloo working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. This should tell you a couple of more relevant things about me. First, I'm in my early twenties. Second, that I live in Canada. Third, that I like programming quite a bit.

Videogames are responsible for much of my talkativeness. I was too young to play on the family Atari, so at age six, the NES was my real introduction to videogames. Ever since then, I've been obsessively playing and talking about videogames. Following the NES, I spent many years being a PC gamer, but have recently turned to handheld and home consoles for my gaming needs.

My favourite videogames EVER! include Grim Fandango, Rez, the Worms series and Quake III Arena.

The beige box was also responsible for getting me into programming. I started programming games for my PC when I turned ten years old. Several programming languages and over a decade later, I'm still plodding along, writing videogames and other neat applications. And, you know, trying to make a career out of the whole thing.

About the website

The purpose of this website is two-fold. The first (err, fold) is to keep a portfolio of the projects I've worked on over the years. It's wonderful incentive to actually follow-through with projects, and it's pretty neat to be able to see what I've achieved with my tireless coding. Plus, it works wonders on prospective employers.

The second purpose is my blog, where I'm commonly found discussing videogames and game development.

If you're interested in the technical details, read on. This website is powered by two pieces of technology hacked together to play nice with each other.

The first is Wordpress, which powers my blog. I wrote my own theme, which allowed me to use their templating system for the rest of the site. A good deal of hacks were required to get my tabbed navigation system working outside of the standard Wordpress pages.

The second is just some code I wrote to power the projects section of this site. It is a simple PHP/MySQL system tailored specifically for the "description, screenshot, links" format of the project pages.

Finally, incase you were wondering, the header image comes from the rather lovely game Darwinia.
